Professional soccer’s K League 1 Pohang Steelers prepared for their FA Cup quarterfinal match against Jeju. Unusually, they arrived two days before the game and booked a ‘two-track’ return flight.
Pohang will host Jeju United at Jeju World Cup Stadium on September 9 at 7:30 p.m. in the Hana OneQ FA Cup 2023 quarterfinals.
The variable in this match is the northbound Typhoon No. 6, Kanun. The Jeju region is expected to experience very strong rain accompanied by 꽁머니 strong winds from the morning of the 9th to the early hours of the 10th.
This could have a major impact on the movement and condition of both the home and away teams.
Pohang suffered greatly in their last match against Jeju on May 6. At the time, heavy rain poured across Jeju, canceling flights to the island, and Pohang didn’t arrive on the island until dawn on the day of the match. Still reeling, Pohang lost 1-2 to Jeju in a game played a few hours later.
As soon as Pohang was drawn to travel to Jeju in the FA Cup quarterfinals, the team scrambled to make flight arrangements.
First, the team arrived in Jeju on the 7th, two days before the game. This is unusual as teams traveling to Jeju usually arrive and stay the day before.
On the afternoon of the 8th, a strong rainstorm began to hit Jeju Island, but the Pohang team arrived safely and prepared for the game without any problems.
That’s not all. The team had several options for their return flight.
“Since it was predicted that Jeju Island would be under the influence of a typhoon before and after the game, we secured an 11th flight in addition to the original 10th flight,” explained a Pohang official.
