Newcastle United’s historic goal difference win over Sheffield United has been dealt a ‘bad blow’. Harvey Barnes (25), who came off injured in the first half, is expected to be out for an extended period with a foot injury.

Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe (45-England) told a press conference ahead of the club’s English Football League (EFL) Carabao Cup clash with Manchester City on Saturday (Jan. 26): “Barnes has injured the area under his toe and I think it’s quite a big injury. “He’s had a scan and now we’re waiting for a specialist to see if he needs surgery,” he said.

“I don’t think it was a tackle, I think it was a running injury. It’s a very rare injury. I’m not a medical expert so I’ll spare you the technicalities,” he said, adding, “I’d expect this to be a months-long injury, not weeks.”

Barnes started the away game against Sheffield United on Sept. 25, but the injury ended the game early in the 12th minute. As Newcastle attacked, Barnes went down on the field. He waited for the medical team to arrive with a dazed look on his face, and after being assessed, he was replaced by Anthony Gordon (22) and carried off the field.

After Barnes’ departure, Newcastle United went on to blow Sheffield United away with an eight-goal blitz, but Howe wasn’t happy, and in his post-match press conference, he said he didn’t think Barnes’ injury was serious. 스포츠토토

Barnes was examined after the game, and as Howe predicted, he will need a significant amount of time to recover. If Barnes needs surgery, there’s a good chance we won’t see him on the field in 2023.

“He must be very disappointed,” Howe said. He wants to show his worth and the Sheffield United game was his chance,” Howe said. “We’re going to help him whether he’s injured or not. We know he is a top quality player and an important part of our tactics.”

Barnes joined Newcastle United this summer for €44 million ($62.9 million) after scoring a ‘career-high’ 13 Premier League goals for Leicester City last season. He was settling into his new team with one goal and one assist in seven games, but an unexpected injury derailed his plans.
