Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has emphasized that Kylian Mbappe is an important player.
“Mbappe’s future is unclear,” PSG sources told ‘PSG Talk’ on Monday. He is out of contract at the end of this season. If the option to extend his contract until 2025 is not exercised, Mbappe will become a free agent next summer.”
The outlet went on to report an interview with Al Khelaifi, the club’s president. “Mbappe is a PSG player. We are happy to have him and he will play here next season. Mbappe loves PSG and is a fantastic player. We are happy.”
Mbappe is an outstanding player who is considered to be the next Ballon d’Or contender. He joined PSG in 2017 from AS Monaco. He spent the 2017-18 season on loan before making a full transfer the following year. At the time, PSG reportedly spent a staggering €180 million on his signing alone.
Since then, Mbappe has been a consistent performer. However, he was linked with a move away from the club ahead of last season. At the time, he was strongly linked to Real Madrid. In fact, Real even drew up a concrete transfer offer to sign him. But suddenly, Mbappe decided to stay. He signed a new contract to stay with PSG.
The deal runs until 2024, with an option for a one-year extension. In the process, PSG reportedly offered a whopping €150 million ($214.6 million) to keep Mbappe.
And with that, the transfer saga seemed to be wrapped up. Mbappe helped PSG win the French Ligue 1 title with 29 goals and five assists in 34 games. His performances were still among the best in the league. The problem was, there was a lot of noise. From the beginning of the season, there were rumors of a feud with Neymar.
On top of that, Mbappe publicly stated that he would not be renewing his contract. This would allow Mbappe to become a free agent next year and move to a team of his choice. PSG were furious. If Mbappe was unwilling to extend his contract, they began to consider selling him this summer for a transfer fee. This reignited the Real transfer speculation. 토토사이트
PSG left Mbappe out of their Asian tour roster to put pressure on him. Despite this, Mbappe didn’t budge. Even if he didn’t play at all before his contract expired, he wouldn’t re-sign. In fact, PSG did not include Mbappe in first-team training ahead of the 2023-24 Ligue 1 opener against Lorient.
However, once the season got underway, there was an air of reconciliation. “The club has had a very constructive and positive conversation with Mbappe,” PSG said in mid-March. We had a pre-match conversation with him against Lorient and he has now returned to first-team training.”
That doesn’t mean Mbappe will sign a contract extension. Earlier this month, Britain’s 90min reported that “Mbappe is set to leave PSG with a huge release clause in his contract.
